Please use this forum if you live out of state but are trying to claim your EB for Florida. I have seen 3 people now with these problems so we need to start a new thread for this. Thanks Smile

Claiming Out Of State EB Discussion - Ongoing Empty Same problem

Post  LJ Wed Jul 15, 2009 4:21 pm

I am still waiting for AWI to remove my code. I am not residing in another state. My Wife and two children moved temp up to PA and all of our mail goes up there..(including this AWI mail) until I changed it on June 2. BUT they still are holdng me hostage as if i am a Instersate claim. My family was really depending on this $ and now things are starting to go off. I have contacted Melody, however, she has to get Supervisor approval. So in summary my case in that I am a Florida resident and have been for 7 years and because I was so dumb to forward my mail they have held me hostage as a intersate claim. Its 3.30 PM and no call from AWI stating the code has been removed.

Have faith in Melody she just got mine done for me.I could tell as soon as I spoke with her that I actualy got someone who cares and really tries to help people, unlike everyone else I spoke with there.Hopefully if she hasent got yours fixed yet she will soon.It really shoudnt matter if PA is a EB eligible state,if not it might be a little more difficult.I am in NC and it is a EB eligible state.I hope mine is good she said she got it handled I will let you know when it shows in my account.I was able to go online and claim some more weeks which I could not do before.A big Thank You to whoever put her # on here!

I received a call back from Melody at 4.15 today and she said she walked my information over to the Supervisor. I agree, Melody cares about us and she makes things happen. Melody said the code could be removed tonight or by Thursday. I am praying it gets done.

Melody told me she would get mine put thru if she could that the supervisor told her it would be an indefinite wait. I was told by three people it would not happen right away so I am going to try calling Melody tomorrow and see if she got anywhere. I am also in NC (EB eligible) but nothing changed on my claim today. So frustrating.

Melody just called me again (love that girl) to let me know that she has spoken with her supervisor again and the supervisor has brought it to the attention of the Queen of Deleting the Flag (don't have a name for that so I made one up) and the Queen is working overtime so my flag may yet be deleted today which would produce a check tomorrow. If you pray - pray! (I do and I am!!!)

**Melody called at 5 pm to let me know the flag was deleted. I was able to claim all my weeks thru 7/11 and I am hoping if all goes well at least one or two checks will be issued tomorrow and then hit my bank early next week! Wahooo!

Claiming Out Of State EB Discussion - Ongoing Empty out of state EB?

Post  nancym Mon Aug 17, 2009 11:46 am

I'm really confused about this EB out of state thing myself. I know the FAQ says something brief about "depends on the condition of the other state." But last spring I was considering a move out of state and I was told point blank by a rep that I usually consider reliable that I would be eligible only for two weeks of EB, and that would be the end of it. So I stayed here.

As it happens the most likely state I would move to is Maryland, which has relatively low unemployment rate (so far), so it may be a moot point. But there may be other places I would move, or Maryland could get worse, so I need to get the facts on this issue.

So for sure are the people who are claiming and reporting from another state on specifically Extended Benefits, or regular, or EUC? And what exactly ARE the rules???
Is there something definitive written online?

I am a out of state claim in NC.The problems I have had were first there was a hold on all out of state claims when the EB started now I am having the same problems as eveyone else with the search verfication.I spoke with Melody this morning and she verfied my weeks for me.As far as moving to another state it depends on what the trigger rate is for each state which goes by the unemployment rate for that state. Some are 2 some are 13 and 20 weeks.NC is 20 same as FL.You can find the trigger rate for each state at the Department of labor web site or at www.nelp.org

Thanks for the clarification. Definitely different from what I was told at the beginning; that makes a huge difference in my decision-making process. I may still remain here, but at least I see more options.

Seems AWI changes its information on more than one issue weekly!

Claiming Out Of State EB Discussion - Ongoing Empty Re: Claiming Out Of State EB Discussion - Ongoing

Post  nancym Mon Aug 24, 2009 12:16 pm

Ok, digging deeper into the question about claiming out of state:

The new legislation proposed in Congress, both in the House and Senate, is for an extension based on EUC, the program we were all on earlier with the Tiers. So does anyone know for sure how that will affect out-of-state claims? Does EUC "depend on the conditions in the state" that you moved to, like EB? Is there anyone here who got the Tiers after they moved out of state and who would expect to get EUC again (if passed) for the new extension?

(The current proposed legislation, if NELP doesn't succeed in convincing them to give it to all states on a sliding scale starting with 10 weeks, provides for another EUC 13 weeks if either 8.5 or 9% unemployment rates.)

Yes I moved to NC a month after I was laid off in FL and I have recieved all my benifits while in NC. I was laid off in 2007.I think it all goes by the same trigger rate rules.

Thanks for your reply, so that's cleared up.

So I guess you'll qualify for just about anything that gets passed with NC's rate at 11%! Smile

Claiming Out Of State EB Discussion - Ongoing Empty Please can anyone help answer these? New to this AWESOME forum!

Post  seahorse Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:05 pm

Hi there,

Thank god for this forum. I received my 1st EB claim, and the 2 subsequent weeks which did not require work search info. Today I filed (always online) and got the work search forms, which I filled out (hopefully correctly - they don't give many options in their multiple choice answers). For example, one job I filed for on CareerBuilder sent me a confirmation email (no ref number though) that the company received my resume/application. So when I file for this week beginning 11/3, do I put "awaiting a call" or "no response"? The only other option is "hired". There is no room for explanation, such as CareerBulider said company received resume, I've gotten no response from company but did from CareerBulider. (This is, of course, assuming I do not get a call back or get hired - would "no response" or "Awaiting a call" be more accurate?). I will not know which is correct.

Here's my OUT OF STATE issue - I'm facing foreclosure (another catch 22 because I can't get a loan mod due to being on unemployment - how do you like them apples?!) so I have been looking for work in CA where there is more work available in my specific industry (I have a communications degree from U of Miami). Spoke to a woman 3 weeks ago about how to initially file for EB, she said keep my FL addy for now so there's no delay, but if I DO show searches for works out of FL, it'll delay my claim. Now if the foreclosure happens, I will be moving to CA full-time. I will need to update my info with FL, and as CA also offers a 20 week extension, and then a 3d 13-week extension, hopefully someone can help me with the following:

1. I plan to contact Melody, it seems across the board she's the most knowledgeable. However, I was told there'd be a delay by that woman I spoke to 3 weeks ago when I do an address change while FL verifies that CA is also an EB approved state. How long is the typical delay? I want to be honest on my search results, as I abide by the law (though it surely doesn't seem to give a lick about us!).

2. CA offers significantly greater compensation due to staggering Unemployment rates. If I presently receive $275 +$25 from FL (I suppose that's the highest bracket), will I receive the same amount in CA or be eligible for a higher UC benefit amount (I was making upwards of $80,000 prior to going on unemployment 6/08)?

3. CA also offers an additional 13 week extension following their 20 week extension. If I change my address to CA, & go through whatever this (hopefully short) delay process time is, will I be eligible for that 13 week extension through CA (as of right now I am unsure whether FL offers anything past the initial 20 week EB, yet CA does).

4. Once my CA address has been confirmed, I will then be able to honestly provide search results from CA, as even though I reside presently in FL, I am searching CA & am keeping both my FL cell active (as that is what unemployment has, yet I now have a CA cell #, but fear providing it because I don't want any red flags - would love to get rid of the FL cell - I'm only keeping it for Unemployment at an extra unnecessary $29.99+ taxes/month) but that 1st lady I spoke to told me NOT to list these out-of-state work searches on my bi-weekly claim, as they would hold up my DD. I want to do everything correctly; I fear any delay in receiving my benefits, however want to legally be able to claim that I AM searching out-of-state - there's already a place for me to live there, once I sell my house or at worst foreclosed on (Technically still in pre-foreclosure since the court date is not set up yet & I have a lawyer postponing it; it IS possible I could have a very low sale offer), but once I sell or lose my home in FL & move to CA, I'm going.... I just can't afford ANY delay in my EB claims, so how do I best avoid this seemingly-tedious red tape?

5. Finally, has anyone who has been filing online had any issues receiving DD recently? Since today (11/3) was my first time being asked the search result questions, I am noticing a lot of people had issues with verifications before receiving DD a couple months ago, but not much update on this forum regarding verifications as of late. Have they finally agreed to issue DD & verify later, or will I have to await verification (which were thankfully all on different days, as I now have learned here that people were having issues with that, although they WERE all attempts made by 1 method, phone - so hopefully my using the same mode of attempt isn't a hindrance) before I receive my DD, which would typically come by Thursday PM (I file 7am Tues morning).

I know that's a lot of questions, but you guys on here seem more knowledgeable than AWI themselves! If there is anyone who can answer these you are a lifesaver, and I would be humbly grateful for any and all info you could provide.

Thanks so much, and god bless the moderators of this site!

Hello seahorse, let me see what I can answer for you.

As for the EB question regarding "awaiting call or no response"...I use either one, haven't had a problem as of yet(don't think that it's a critical big deal to use either one)

As to your question FL. v Ca. as far as compensation$$ goes,if you have earned your monies in Florida, you will be compensated by Florida...so if your getting the $275.00 plus the $25.00...that to is what you'll receive in California.(now that will have to hurt). So as far as I know, even though you will be in Ca.,your stuck with the unemployment benefits and rules in Florida.

As for your EB and job searches in California, you might ask Melody that question....I really don't have a clue in that regard and don't want to give you any questionable info.

As for your question about DD having problems...there were some noted problems in October pertaining to new quarters and the Columbus Day Holiday....but I am unaware of any problems since. Using the same mode of contact shouldn't be hindering you,but then again,we are dealing with Florida AWI here. A few months ago they were holding up everyone's EB checks in an attempt to personally verify everyone's job searches. That turned into a fiasco, and after many complaints and media attention, they changed their tune. The most important thing you MUST REMEMBER about your job searches is 2 searches per week ON DIFFERENT DAYS. AWI is very critical of this requirement. Contact mode isn't nearly as critical, but I try to mix them up as much as possible(phone,e-mail,fax,in person) it's not a requirement, but it is suggested. When you file on Tuesday(mornings are always best...the earlier the better) you can check back on the AWI site later that same day(usually after 3:00p) and see if monies we issued to you on that day. If they are not, check again early the next morning and if they still haven't been issued...get on the phone to Melody et al and find out why. Florida's computer system is really, really OLD.

Sorry I couldn't of any more help, but if you call Melody or Josh...they will help you without hesitation. Good luck seahorse...especially if you have to move back to California. Their screwed up worse than Florida is.

P.S. In case you didn't know seahorse, you can claim EB on line. Its quick and easy

Claiming Out Of State EB Discussion - Ongoing Empty Thanks SO much for your reply

Post  seahorse Wed Nov 04, 2009 3:45 pm

Thanks, Gonzo -

Your reply DID answer a lot of my questions, so thank you kindly!!

I usually file online at 4am PST (as I am presently in CA right now) and the DD is usually there by Thursday PM. So far no probs yet, but since yesterday was the 1st time I had to fill out the work search results, I wasn't sure how the verification process worked. I guess I will check my account like you said, and then if I don't see the DD by Thurs, I'll contact Melody to find out what the hold up was.

Still concerned about the delay in time it takes once I change my address from Florida to CA. Anyone have experience moving states as to how long the delay was in receiving their claims upon changing their contact info, and is it better to do that online or with someone ike Melody (personally, I am VERY grateful for the direct contact numbers here - they seem to be a lifesaver, as we all know getting through is a nightmare!)?

Thanks again for your (timely!) response - it is MUCH appreciated, and anyone else with feedback, I'd love to know your experiences on the out of state delay.
Very Best,
Seahorse
