Post  Jeff Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:03 pm

I don't know where this post applies. So I'll post here with my fingers crossed. My EUC2 benefits would have exhausted by 12/26. But then when I checked my balance today, there was an extra $107. added to my funds. This will leave me with an $6.00 balance on 12/26, which will extend my benefits ( with a six dollar check) thru Jan2. And I will miss the cutoff for the Tier3 extention by two days.

I called the unemployment office and was told that the President had signed something that added 4% to my original benefit amount. I asked if they could take it back or if I could deny it. But they said no. Is anyone familiar with this four percent thing? Is it legitimate? It really screwed me up because the job situation here is bad, and I was hoping that by march or april it might look a little rosier. I was anticipating that extra 20 weeks. Now I am just floored.

Please check your accounts. Mine finally shows a payment for 4 weeks. The amount is only for 3 weeks, but as I was told earlier the amount for the 4th week will be separate.

Robbi... that is great news! When did you claim your weeks. My account was updated this A.M. and I was able to claim weeks. I am just wondering if I should look forward to the payment before the weekend or if it wouldn't be until Monday.

I filled out the app on Monday, and when there were no weeks to claim I called and Cassandra fixed it so that I was able to claim on Tuesday. No update yesterday so I spoke w/Cassandra again and she told me to check this afternoon it looked fine, and sure enough, there it was. So I would say by Monday depending on how fast their system is processing.

I just spoke with AWi regarding my claim..claimed 4 weeks yesterday still no check issued. The odd thing was when I finished yesterday it said next date to claim was 12/21 BUT today my claim information said next date to claim was 12/07???? and I could not "claim weeks". The lady that answered pulled up my claim and printed it and was giving it directly to a superior to get processed and verified next date to claim as 12/21...I asked was there a problem since I claimed yesterday and it needed human intervention to process...she said NO...just that nothing is working like normal SO i strongly suggest if you have been able to claim weeks and have not seen a check issued the next day call and verify everything is OK...maybe by the next claim date the bugs will be fixed...

Post  Me From Jax Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:44 pm

I called to ask how my payment would be made and found out that the first check will be mailed. Which is weird because I've always received DD.. I hope the rep. was correct and that it was just something that had to happen with the 1st check. Also, judging by the balance left after my payment, one of the weeks is from the Tier II.. My balance only reflects 3 weeks being paid out of my EUC III balance..

still no update for me - still shows my zero balance from back in July. I applied Monday, was able to claim 2 weeks on Tuesday, and another 2 weeks today (by hitting the claim weeks button by chance). I've left 5 messages between yesterday and today with various people (Melody, Cassandra, etc ...) and no one calls back. I don't know where to go from here

Jeff, i am in the same boat as you except my check will be for $2.00 on 1/2/10
HR3548 which is the bill that was signed 11/6/2009 gave an additional 20 weeks which as of right now unless the dates are extended you can only get 14 weeks at this time, but the way it is worded it now changes the amount of tier 2 from 50% of your original benefit amount to 54% of original amount which is where the 4% they told you was from. I have been going back and fourth with AWI with no luck, told them the same keep the $2.00 no such luck, All we can hope for is they extend the expiration dates past 12/31/09 before they leave for x-mas break.

michelle you are not alone - i have the same situation. filled out the app on Monday, shows 0.00 balance and won't let me claim (which makes sense with a $0 balance, I guess). I've left messages, too, and no response. Just wanted you to know there's someone else in the same boat paddling with ya.

General EUC Discussion - Ongoing - Page 18 Empty Numbers don\'t add up

Post  Tampa Bay - Anna Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:51 pm

So I am confused about the numbers when I logged into my AWI account:

"Your weekly benefit amount is $275.00.
Your available credits were: $3575.00.
Your Balance is $2750.00

A check in the amount of $988.00, was issued on 12/10/09 for 4 weeks. Checks are mailed one working day after being issued.

A stimulus check in the amount of $88.00, was issued on 12/10/09 for 4 weeks. Checks are mailed one working day after being issued."

While I'm super excited that a check has been issued, I don't understand why I'm receiving $247 per wk instead of $275. Has anyone else gotten less money than expected or know anything about this? Thanks in advance Smile

I just tried to call Melody at X5293 and a recording told me I could not be transfered to that number. So I left a message in the general voicemail box when directed too. I don't know what else to do. I have played the game by their rules and I can't seem to get anywhere.

I am glad to see some people are actually getting some money finally!

General EUC Discussion - Ongoing - Page 18 Empty UPDATE

Post  nancym Thu Dec 10, 2009 3:56 pm

Ok, this was just sent to me from Melody, this exact wording, a few more details on what's going on:

---------------

The information on the website is correct. Here is some additional detail that may be helpful:

* If you exhausted your benefits for Tier II, were receiving Extended Benefits (EB) on or after the week ending November 7, or will exhaust Tier II or Tier III by the week ending December 26, you DO NOT have to file for the extension.

* Because of the volume of claims transitioning from Tier II and EB, we are processing claims in batches of 35,000 per day. Therefore, some claims are set up before others. We will process all of the claims by this weekend.

* Once we set up your extension, we will send you a determination notice in the mail.

* Customers can also try claiming weeks if they don’t want to wait for the determination notice; once they are set up, they should be able to claim weeks immediately.

---------------------

I told her that I don't think anyone on this forum is waiting for anything in the mail, lol! But I did ask for clarification of what was meant by "processing claims." What this means is that everyone's claim for EUC 3 will be SET UP and accessible by (presumably the end of) this weekend. Of course, you might be lucky and be in an earlier batch. As soon as your account is set up you should see an update and be able to claim weeks. (As mentioned earlier, I personally think if you see an updated account balance and yet still cannot claim weeks, you might want to call in to see why.)

Michelle: try to call Cassandra at 877-846-8770 x 1493

If you were paid for 4 weeks but only 3 is showing, you will get all 4 weeks but 1 week is from tier II and it has to do with the way the law was written so you will actually receive 4 weks of funds. At least that's what I was told. I was also told that mine will be DD.
It seems as if they are taking an extra day to process these initial payments after you claim, so anyone who claims today probably won't see an update till Monday at this point.

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! My account was deducted for 4 weeks and checks were issued today including four $25 payments. I'm going to wait by my bank account (balance 0.61) and hope it's fed by tomorrow. I'm breathing a little easier now and the stress "sores" that have been cropping up all over my body seem to be slowly going away. However, I don't expect a full recovery until the money hits my account.

The only way you can have a stimulus check for 4 weeks that comes out to $88.00 is if you had taxes taken out. Is it possible that when you filled out that application that you may have said yes to having taxes taken out by accident (if that's not what you wanted done)?

If that's some mistake in the programming, I don't even know if they can change it that easily. If it is taxes, and you can get along on just the balance, you will probably need that paid in to the IRS anyway, what with all the taxes that will be due on benefits this year!

I had this same problem today.. It's definitely taxes. In my application I chose to not have them deducted, but somehow they are.. The rep. said he's sending a form for me to complete and fax in to have this reversed.

When you all send out letters and emails (or phonecalls) to the list of representatives terri posted above, you might consider also giving them this link:

http://www.whittierdailynews.com/news/ci_13962976?_requestid=7175522
and the slideshow:
http://sgvtribune.mycapture.com/mycapture/enlarge.asp?image=27113074&event=906219&CategoryID=33028&picnum=27&move=B#Image

and tell them that this is happening in California AND Florida now. AND ask them if this they would want this same thing to happen to their own 56-yr-old mother or grandmother or sister!

This has just got to stop!

(BTW, if any of you haven't frequented any of the national forums, California seems to be in a parallel universe to us--same waiting, same ancient computers, same craziness going on, same outrage.)

just got off the phone. the first phone call got me no where, they basically told me that my claim has not been processed yet and that his supervisor told him that if it is not processed in 14days then i should call them and then they would do something about it, but not before then. so then I tried calling cassandra, all I could do there was leave a message.

Jeff--I hate to say it, but I have to add my own agreement to what motley says here. It's not that they added that extra 4% just to screw a few people over, but when the re-configured the multiple Tiers so that it would somehow be in sync with the existing benefits that all the states were already paying out, they added that extra week to Tier 2, which presented a bit of a nightmare to implement, especially with states using 1970 computers like Florida.

Then to make things INFINITELY worse, the Senate (really the whole Congress, but the Senate was the worst delay, and IMHO especially the Republicans), by the time Congress finally passed the new bill, the provisions butted up against a previous deadline for the whole EUC program that was funded from the feds with ARRA.

And you are one of the ones who had a right to expect more, but now are cut short. Even those who only got the first 26 weeks of regular benefits will not have even Tier 1 to look forward to after Dec 31, until they pass HR 4183 and/or S. 2831, it's companion bill, or a similar bill, and we're still hoping before Christmas. (See "Senate bills..." in another part of this website for the discussion thread there.)

Thanks for the response Motley. So you're saying that they have misinterpreted the law, and/or that the word is not in harmony with the purpose/spirit of the law? Surely it wasn't intended to push people out of benefits for two dollars.
