HHS awards $30 million in consumer assistance grants
This is rich, to gain acceptance of the health care bill the Feds are paying the states $30M to convince you to like it.

Obama's Deal
After I got tired of watching the election rout last nite I switched to PBS and they had a Frontline documentary on the antics behind the Health Care Reform bill. As someone who followed this fairly closely even I was amazed at the legnths they went to in order to get this passed. You can link to the video and watch the program

Krugman assumes there are "Death Panels" in our future
On the Sunday news show "This Week" with Christiane Amanpour, the round table discussion about the Deficit Commisoin report included Nobel Prize winning economist and NYT Columnist Paul Krugman (this guy is a major idea man and darling in lefty circles IMO, Im sure the Prez receives his inputs also) spoke with the assumption that "Death Panels" are in the future for our Health Care system (and were seriously discussed in the last round of the HCR bill). Looks like Sarah Palin was correct. A excerpt of the transcript is below:
KRUGMAN: They should have said, "Okay, look, Medicare is going to have to decide what it's going to pay for. And at least for starters, it's going to have to decide which medical procedures are not effective at all and should not be paid for at all." In other words, it should have endorsed the panel that was part of the health care reform. If the commission isn't even brave enough to take on the death panels people, then it's doing no good at all.
AMANPOUR: "Look, what's gonna happen? I mean are you clear on where a compromise is gonna be? It's gotta be discussed before the end of the year, no?"
KRUGMAN: No. Some years down the pike we're gonna get the real solution, which is gonna be a combination of death panels and sales taxes. It's going to be that we're actually gonna take Medicare under control and we're gonna have to get some additional revenue, probably from a VAT.
AMANPOUR: "So where do you see the British economy going?"
KRUGMAN: We're going to have Cameron-type austerity in this country, not as a deliberate policy, but because the state and local governments are going to be slashing their spending. There's going to be no further aid coming from Washington. We're in Herbert Hoover territory in the United States for sure.
this is starting to resemble "Soylent Green" ;

Union Drops Health Coverage for Workers’ Children
Ironic considering the Union complex greased the skids to enable the Prez and Congress to pass this poorly designed bill.
