Sen Conrad wont seek re-election
Well, another blue-dog enabler of Health Care Reform hits the road. I wonder if he has concluded that the advice Presidents Clinton and Obama gave him, that voting for this thing would be a political winner when we found out whats in it, was not very good...

Re: Health Care initiatives in the world of the unemployed
what would you propose to insure the un-insured? We all know that health care costs are through the roof, and getting worse; however, today's un-insured still get medical care whwn they need it...only it's paid directly by the taxpayer. I see many of these articles slamming the health care bill veiled in politics as usual, but I don't hear any proposals from the right...just blah, blah, blah about Obama...why dosen't the right stop politicking, and start working for the people....all the people, just my 2 cents

Re: Health Care initiatives in the world of the unemployed
Well, since you asked, what I would do is first approach this from the perspective that Health Care is not a right, (as neither is cable TV, or designer sneakers etc) however as you implied we all have a vested interest in our populatoin receiving some health care. I would encourage interstate commerce for health insurance, (ie allowing you to buy health insurance across state lines, like Geico does for cars for ex) , I would also encourage high deductable health plans , (which are lower cost because they dont cover a temporary ear ache) in conjunction with tax deductable Health Savings Accts to encourage people to save for their out of pocket expenses. (This would also incentivize people to shop around for medical care, putting downward pressure on prices. I would allow that the premiums and out of pocket expenses be fully tax deductible. For those that are uninsurable (ie pre-existing conditions) I would establish a high risk insurance pool (as they do for high risk drivers auto insurance) to give these people some level of coverage.
If you are poor and cant afford health insurance, the current Health Care Reform law does nothing to help you.
What I would NOT do is what the current Administratoin has done.
We were promised in the '08 campaign that the uninsured would be covered if we elected these Chicago guys. We were NOT told that those of us who had insurance would pay excessively more, that there would be a unconstitutional requirement that everybody MUST buy Health Insurance, that employers would have the option to opt out of paying for Health Ins for a fine that was less than their cost(resulting in forcing employees to enroll in a govt subsidized plan),that medicare benefits would be cut, that our Health Svgs Accts would be prohibited from buying over the counter meds, that the CBO would be directed to score this as budget neutral when its a gimmic that includes years of taxes when no benefits are paid and doesnt include the Medicare cuts (Dr. Fix),has attempted manditory annual EOL Conseling(ie"do you want to keep living and be a burden by consuming Med benefits")a conflict of interest at best,it goes on and on and on.
The current HCR law goes way beyond the usual breaucratic inconvenience.
Im no spokesperson for the so called "right", but Ive heard plenty of alternatives suggested like Tort reform and allowing health insurance purchase across state lines.
If you believe anything Ive posted on this thread is factually incorrect, please indicate what it is.
