I just read through the comments, I have several family members in Mass. I'm going to keep checking with them to see if these job creation programs are actually working.

The Senate is supposed to start back with another jobs bill ( H.R. 2847) today at 2:00, lets hope the senators have heard our needs for tier V.

H.R. 2847 Can Be The Bill To Include A Tier 5 Extension

New federal benefits legislation for 2010? --Please use this thread for all discussion - Page 15 Empty Alerting the Media regarding TIER V and the impact it will have on the economy if not created

Post  daytonaman Mon Mar 15, 2010 3:39 pm

I was just reading some comments on another unemployment blog, I am going to copy & paste the idea, the more people that know about the economic impact of approx 400,000 people a month becoming homeless starting at the end of this month, the quicker congress will get the message. We really need to push this, the only thing I have seen on CSpan or Cspan2 for the house & senate today is the health care debate.
Here is an idea from a reporter:

I am an active poster on the unemployment forum at www.progressillinois.com. We just received this post from someone named MediaMaven, and I am sharing it with this site. PLEASE put it to good use! We're all in this together!
_____________________________________________________

I recently received a message ...regarding this board.
I am from a DC PR agency, and while I cannot professionally endorse
what you are trying to accomplish (conflict of interest purposes), I can
provide you some information to help your cause.

I have read some of the great post regarding amending HR4213. I
would like to advise another vehicle to get your message out there - a
press release. All a press release needs is a:
Headline (center space)
Summary (goes directly under heading ? center space)
(double space)
Body
Contact Info:

Key points that need to be included in the press release:
--The long-term unemployed have not received 99 weeks of continuous
benefits
--Provide details on how the gaps of benefits was the start of financial
hardships for many
--Not everyone is eligible for tier 4 or EB benefits
--Provide details on how HR4213 does not benefit the segment of
unemployed who need it the most.

Below is a list of FREE press release sites:
www.pressroom.prlog.org
www.freepressindex.com
www.pr-inside.com
www.i-newswire.com
www.prurgent.com
www.free-press-release.com
www.24-7pressrelease.com
www.pressabout.com

All anyone has to do is to go to each site and set up an account and
post their release.
Make sure to include ?key? words in the body of the release (i.e.,
Senator Reid, Obama, unemployment benefits, Pelosi, hardships, crime,
etc.) ? this will ensure more visibility and to be picked up by the
media.
You can also go online to see samples of press releases.

This site has some very intelligent and articulate people ? so I know
that creating a solid press release will not be a problem.
Share this information on every UI board and all the Facebook
contacts ? and tell all to post a release each week until a tier 5 is
created.

I received a message about this board from a reporter, who in turn
forwarded it to me - so your media outreach is working.
Get luck to all of you!

I'd like to know what Jim Stratton thinks about putting out a press release. Who would release it & who would be the contact? I don't think the media will pick up a release from grandmom49 or even from UIK. I am going to check with nelp & see if they have anything planned.
I agree that we need to band together to get action before spring break I just don't know how to bring together such a diverse population.

New federal benefits legislation for 2010? --Please use this thread for all discussion - Page 15 Empty Charity

Post  TruthbeKnown Tue Mar 16, 2010 12:09 pm

For those of you that feel that the unemployment extension as a form of charity please consider this: You worked hard all your lives and now with no jobs out there you need help to sustain yourself until you can find work again. Right? What about all the federal money that goes to people on welfare. In the form of Federal housing, food stamps, cash assistance health insurance. Many of these people have been on welfare all of their lives. No incentive to go out and better their selves with free money handed to them., The only incentive they have is popping out more children for more money. Some of them never worked a day in their lives or paid taxes. They came from other countries or had children at early ages and live on federal money; taxes you pay to feed and shelter them. NOW THAT’S CHARITY!

Truth Be Known, you know that I do not equate continued unemployment benefits with charity, however I also don't believe in using boogeymen to persuade people to agree with me. Many of those subsidies you are talking about are for older & disabled citizens who had no more control over their financial hardships then we have over ours. I would not want to take $$ away from those programs to fund TierV.
Remember that the U.S. is a capitalist society and our strongest argument is how subsidizing our less fortunate citizens allow them to continue to contribute. I never thought I would have to count myself among the less fortunate but now because of the events of the past few years, "I are one".

New federal benefits legislation for 2010? --Please use this thread for all discussion - Page 15 Empty More & More sites showing up for tier V

Post  daytonaman Wed Mar 17, 2010 6:41 am

Just type in Unemployment Tier V in yahoo, I found this a few minutes ago

http://carczarconsulting.com/03/08/jobs-bill-will-not-help-unemployment-tier-5-assistance-needed-for-long-term-unemployed/

I was reading late last night about alot of people wanting to organize protests and marches, One I read about ( can't find the link ) was a little outrageous, but it seems that alot of people are considering a "we can't afford clothing" nude protest idea, I'm sure that will get PLENTY of media attention!! Better than getting violent about this whole mess

I find myself getting extremely aggravated that congress can use our tax dollars to help other countries in need, and cry and whine about how to pay for unemployment, STOP sending the money to other countries in need, AMERICA is in NEED right now!!

Somebody with ties or friends in mainstream media like MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, Fox News, needs to get the real truth about this recently passed extension, eligibility only, most of America thinks the unemployed just received added weeks of benefits.
For those of us in the Central Florida area, Local 6 news Lauren is always asking people to send ideas of news that could be of public interest, well most of America doesn't know the real truth behind the recently passed so called extension, and what the economic homeless tsunami coming at the end of March, If I've been reading correctly the number is approx 2,000,000 people this month. I've e-mailed local 6, lauren@local6.com. Maybe if enough people in Florida send her an e-mail with the same news topic it will get on the air.

New federal benefits legislation for 2010? --Please use this thread for all discussion - Page 15 Empty A New bill is in the works for additional benefits after todays job's bill passed

Post  daytonaman Wed Mar 17, 2010 5:51 pm

Copied from Huffington post:

A far larger measure that would extend health insurance subsidies and jobless checks for the unemployed is in the works but has hit slow going. That measure has passed both House and Senate but is hung up as the rival chambers wrangle over how to partially finance the legislation, which also would extend a variety of tax breaks for individuals and businesses.

As a result, it may require a third temporary extension of unemployment benefits, which would otherwise expire at the end of this month. The House on Wednesday approved a one-month extension of jobless benefits and several other soon-to-expire programs by voice vote.

Was this the one held up by Bunning and then passed? If so, will it happen again? Oh why can't they add more weeks or another Tier to one of these bills.

Yes, this is the same legislation that, once passed by the Senate, was sent back to the House so that a House/Senate conference committee could iron out the details.I.E. how will the bill be paid for.....the extension till Dec, 2010 is in the bill, so, until it gets past the House, it's not law.

Great. So they chopped it up and are passing it in pieces. My hope was that they'd already have it in law and be working on another Tier for the long term unemployed. This is all very discouraging. And why are they spending so much valuable time laboring over a major healthcare reform that most people don't trust or want, while the people are unemployed and the economy is in shambles, the al qaeda are sneaking across the border, iran is building nukes, Pakistan, North Korea, Yemen, Israel/Palestinian/Iran, etc....... Arrrgh!

The reconciliation of the versions of a bill passed by the House & Senate is SOP. I believe that the bill could be amended in conference to add extra weeks to the Tiers that already exist. Am I correct?

New federal benefits legislation for 2010? --Please use this thread for all discussion - Page 15 Empty Staffers Say Congress 'Doesn't Have The Political Will' For True Extension Of Unemployment Benefits

Post  sc4ram Thu Mar 18, 2010 11:13 am

After reading this I might have to lower my odds of Tier V passage to something less than even. I think the article has captured the political mood of the Congress correctly. For those who are communicating with their elected representatives on this subject, there is money available for this (this was one of the sensical things that Sen Bunning pointed out a couple of weeks ago) . There is still approved but unspent money from the stimulus laying around. I have scarcastically referred to this a a slush fund. You would think that the purpose of stimulus money would be to get it in to the economy quickly, but our government in its infinate wisdom spread out the ~$700B over several years. When Sen Bunning had a exchange with Sen Durbin on this subject, Sen Durbin started to use $.25 words and phrases like the money was allocated just unspent. (the conspiracy theorist in me thinks they are using it to buy off members of Congress to get them to vote for the Health Care bill by offering to spend it in their districts)

The bottom line is, there is money that has already been approved (so it wouldnt have to meet the pay-go rules)

Good Luck

I can't believe this article, especially the last sentence

"If enough people raise the profile of this issue, a solution will come," predicted the staffer of a Democratic Senator. "This problem is completely off the radar. And until that changes, nothing is going to get done." [b][u]

Where are all these petitions and video's and message that we all are sending going to, off that damn radar????? WTF? Does congress actually think that 2 million plus people are going to disappear this month, and the other half million a month for the next few months? Our government and America is in for a rude awakening if tier 5 isn't passed!!

I found a general e-mail for the House ---- AmericanVoices@mail.house.gov
FLOOD THAT E-MAIL with TIER V in the Subject line

I sure hope John knows what he's talking about. I was over at the other forum and confusion reigns supreme over, once again, whether this measure simply extends the qualifying date. I read the text of the bill, and I'm not qualified to translate.
