Health Care initiatives in the world of the unemployed - Page 13 Empty Obama: We knew health costs would go up

Post  sc4ram Sun Sep 12, 2010 11:57 am

Interesting that the Prez said last week that "we knew" that health care costs would go up with Health Care reform, my recollection was about repeated talking points when the bill was being debated in Congress that said it would "bend the cost curve down". They also implied that the reform bill would reduce costs because the uninsured were using emergency rooms. (the article at the bottom is from May where they said the bill would "save trillions")
Sounds like at best they do not know what they are talking about in any event...............................

Health Care initiatives in the world of the unemployed - Page 13 Empty Insurance rates skyrocketing nationwide

Looks like the Madam Speaker was correct "we will have to pass Health Care Reform to know whats in it"

Insurance rates skyrocketing nationwide

With health insurance premiums going through the roof, The Factor interrogated health care analyst and author Betsy McCaughey. "The first 20 pages of the Obama health care law go into effect right away," McCaughey explained, "and that's what's costing you money. For example, the President is boasting that preventive care is 'free.' But that's not true - you are required to pay for all preventive services up front whether you want them or not. Another reason is that the Medicaid rolls have gone up to 50-million people, and Medicaid shortchanges hospitals and doctors, who make it up by charging privately insured patients more. And the big increases are coming in 2014." The Factor complained that the health care debate was deceptive: "When I was listening to the President debate the worthiness of Obamacare, I never heard that my insurance was going to go up $2,100 a year, and the small business owners I know never heard it either."

Health Care initiatives in the world of the unemployed - Page 13 Empty Democrats guess wrong on health care

Post  sc4ram Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:30 am

I might add that Politico may have missed the boat here. I dont think the Dems guessed wrong, they simply didnt care if they were wrong. I seem to recall a bunch of these people in Congress voting for this without even reading it. If you remember many of them went to their home districts for town hall mtgs and were puked on by their constituents during the debate. (cant imagine how they concluded the voters wouldnt have a bad reaction to its passage) Doesnt sound like a educated guess to me. I think its a bit of a understatement to say "we guessed wrong" on the biggest piece of legislation in decades and then decide to say "nevermind" and the advocates not even mention this while they are campaigning. The whole episode is not our finest hour in my view.

Health Care initiatives in the world of the unemployed - Page 13 Empty Carter blames Ted Kennedy for failure to pass Health Care Reform

I have to add to this . Given I grew up in the 70s and remember the Carter admin very well (ie IMO it was bad) , if the former Prez had stuck to hanging door frames for Habitat for Humanity when he left office, and kept his big mouth shut in the interim, I might be able to look back on him with some admiration. Despite his failed administration, I think at the time he was a honest guy and he tried hard. He may even have been what the times demanded, somebody that could transition the US out of the Watergate era. However, when he blabs this and other nonsensical comments all over television , its easy to recall why the voters gave him the boot. The irony here is that passage of a health care bill is supposed to have the goal of helping sick people, not service the egos of a peanut farmer President and a elite Senator who thought the rules applied to everybody else and not him………….

If you watch this clip, Wayne "Trapper" Rogers says there is a new real estate tax within the Health Care bill.
